Clinic earns high ratings for joint replacement

The Great Falls Clinic has had a reputation for the past 90 years for having good outpatient care, Great Falls Clinic CEO Patrick Hermanson said. On Tuesday, the Great Falls Clinic Medical Center was honored for how well its staff perform inpatient care.
The medical center announced Wednesday that the HealthGrades' annual study ranked joint-replacement care at the facility in the top 10 percent in the nation, finding the 20-bed Great Falls Clinic Medical Center to be the best joint program in Montana.
HealthGrades, the nation's leading independent ratings organization, evaluates patient outcomes for about 5,000 hospitals.
The Great Falls Clinic Medical Center also achieved 2011 five-star ratings from HealthGrades in joint replacement, total knee replacement and total hip
replacement.
The Clinic Medical Center was the only hospital in Montana to receive the five-star award for joint replacement, said Marietta Haffey, account executive
for HealthGrades.
HealthGrades reviews virtually all of the hospitals in the nation. Hospitals can't opt in or out of the review, Haffey said.
"Not all hospitals are the same when it comes to quality of care," she said.
HealthGrades found that patients saw an 80 percent lower chance of experiencing one or more complications at a five-star hospital compared to a one-star hospital, Haffey said.
